I am SO cross!

It appears that in broad daylight a blasted fox came and took one of my hens, no body but very agitated ones left, cant find the little Japanese bantam rooster who lives with them and loads of feathers.
It probably was the only one of the old girls who gives me any eggs too.
John found one hen on the wall around the garden and finally managed to get her in, I found only two others and there should be four.
They are now confined to quarters.

Oh I am so sorry for the loss of your little hen... the other hens will miss her too...

At my last home a weasel or something similar got into our pen and killed my whole flock of about 14 Rhode Island Reds.. just bit their neck, killed them and left them all there lying .. it looked like a massacre... it broke my heart..

hope your remaining chicks stay safe.. best to you!!!

Sorry for the loss Penny.

We once tried to raise hens for eggs and had one rooster, but something was getting to them, so we gave the others to a 'real farmer'!

What delightful hens, Penny. You got their body language so perfectly.

I am so sorry about your loss. It seems that we help one endangered species to the detriment of another. Foxes and coyotes can be surprisingly brazen. Once upon a time I watched a coyote and our orange cat, their tawny colors matching, way out by the hen house. And from a distance they looked hunkered down fairly close to one another. I could not believe what I was seeing but easily imagined a possible conversation going on:

Coyote: "Nice coop you have over there."

Orange Cat: "Glad you like it. Full of juicy rats and big birds with too many feathers for me. Would you like to see it?"

My husband ran for the gun and that
friendly visit suddenly ended.

Lovely picture and haiku. The mongeese used to steal eggs from us when we lived in Fiji on the cane farm.
Your busy life is amazing - how you fit so much in.
Politics - certainly the media is interfering most of all, and now one gentleman has to have his gall-bladder taken out. Will they find a knife there?

I must apologize Penny for getting all political as we ought to stick with the topic of fluffy hens and dratted foxes!
